Choose Your Ending

Dragonball comics happened in my generation. We were in our early teens. It was a pretty good story. It was interesting, engaging, creative and even exciting at many instances. Then it went on. And on. And on.

It began to suck but it went on.
And on. And on.

Then it really sucked. But it went on.
And on. And on.

I didn't know the ending. I am not sure if there was one at the end. In fact, the comic had great possible ending points in many parts of the story. Alas the author simply would not end. In the end it became a, in my opinion, utter flop instead of a genuine classic that it should have been.

This blog has a purpose. It's about migration all along and not about my story. I am nobody. Nobody is interested in a nobody's life story. Even I yawned when I read my own blog. I know how bad it can be at times.

It was started to provide some information about moving out of Singapore in a form of a factual story rather than dense data so that it's easier to understand. It has pretty much serve its purpose, at least to my best abilities. It is not that I have nothing else to write. I do but I don't want to turn it into a Dragonball.

I have been thinking of an ending for a few weeks. I can't think of a suitable one. I don't think there are much readers left anyway. Most of them were my friends. They read my blog because they were worried about us. Now that things are pretty much settled, I don't think they read anymore.

Whoever left reading, maybe you can select the ending that you prefer.

I thought of:

1) The birth of my child

or

2) My first return to Singapore

or

3) Landing of my permanent job

or

4) 31 December 2011

or

5) Passing on the baton to the next Singaporean migrant - His or her story

What do you think? Not bad right? If you have any other ideas, maybe you can suggest. I'll take what choice you prefer.

  7. Those who are still reading want to know if you are already enjoying life in greener pastures..not necessary worrying, my dear bro. That's to see things in a positive way. Not sure if time permits you to blog so often after Albany arrives but I'm sure you can still keep it going weekly rather than daily. It's fun to read your blog and experiences.

  9. You are a good blogger.. You should continue, do not end it.

  11. I think option 3 would be a great topic for u to continue writing. Can include your journey towards a permanent job and your experiences in one.

    Include more pictures.

  12. Simple. "Write with your heart" as you originally planned. Your migration story will inevitably include your daughter, first permanent job, first trip home, etc. I think most readers want to read first hand stories of your life in Perth more than some migration procedures (mostly found in immi website).

Besides you said you enjoy writing and if so, just carry on, use this blog as an incentive to rant, destress and laugh about life in Perth!

  13. Don't see why it has to end; if you don't mind writing I'm sure there will always be people who find your perspective of life over here interesting : )

Tonight, I am quite upset, Jenny accompany me for the whole night and we are talking non sense just to cheer me up. Details, you can ask Jenny. During the chat, we found an interesting topic, 我的志愿 and I think I will be interesting for you to blog one if you willing to.

I am going to Perth in fact I am standing at the cross road.I and accumulating my courage to have a change, not about changing an environment in fact changing the career path way it should be. Still pondering but I hope my plan can work.

  20. Thanks everyone. I didn't expect so many responses and I'm not sure who to listen to. The reason why I wanted to stop so that the blog could be useful and contain relevant information.

It'll be harder for someone to dig through all the unrelated data. I'm easily impressed and amused so i tend to write silly stuffs. such as chickens...

  21. Hi aSingaporeanson,

I do read your story once sometimes when I have time to do so. I just feel like I'm stuck in this island, this island is like a prison to me.

I am more or less in your shoe some way, and thanks for the informative stories. although I haven read it all, but its very useful to me.

Thank you. hope my migration is successful and we can have a coffee session someday in Australia.
    :)

  22. @royz: Singapore is a paradise, not prison. Are you sure you want to do this? :)

  23. I wish you can share more. stop when you are at the point of permanent residence.

  24. There are many Singaporeans wishing to migrate but may not know how to go about it. You can share your experiences and help those who are really in need to leave Singapore and make a decent living in Perth.

    ReplyDelete
  25. @Unknown: That may be next year, around Oct.

@Lyn: I'll try to share but there isn't much from my daily living experience to be useful migration information anymore though.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Actually, I feel that you shouldn't stop as well. Your blog is a good read, moreover, you can tag all the post relevant to migration. This way anyone who is interested in migration can use the tag to find all the relevant post.

Yours is different from Dragonball. Dragonball is a single story about how this man monkey fight and fight and fight, thus when the author starts to drag so that he can milk the story, it became boring. Yours is a collection of events, each giving a glimpse of your life, each giving a unique ray of light and hope, together they made up a rainbow. The rainbow of your life.

  27. Why stop? You write well and I enjoy your words very much. They are honest words. Singapore needs writers/bloggers such as yourself to help enlighten those who live in the "dark". As long as you have something to say I'm happy to read them.

  28. @Feng & tehtarik: thanks for your encouragement, i'll think about it. i do enjoy writing things. even if i stop i will prob write something on other topics in another blog perhaps? i'll see how it goes. thank you so much for the comments.

  29. If you're ever in Melbourne, gimme a shout and we'll have a coffee (at the least).

  30. @tehtarik: Im honored. I hope to have the chance to visit Melbourne one day too. In the near future, I can't see it because of the baby. Hopefully..

    ReplyDelete
  31. @Anonymous: I've a baby to rock soon. I'm not too sure if i can rock so many things at one time. :)

  32. Please. Do keep writing. Your entries are all really good.

  33. Hi -asingaporeanson-, again I lack the youthful stamina to study through all comments before me, so I just want to say: writing is a cathartic release.

You put down what you're really feeling and thinking, and it takes all that load off you, perhaps healing some mental wounds… but of course, only if you feel that way.

Then over a period of time, should that writing benefit you, it might help you reflect on the past, feel grateful for the present, and look forward to the future.

If the above describes you as you are becoming, then may you blog for as long as you find the meaning to!

    And of your blog successors?
if they share kinship spirit with you, I think they will appear on their own to join you, or to break away and develop from what you've started! :-)
