Patrick's New Car

Patrick bought a new car today and we are 100% excited by it. Obviously the excitement ratio is around Pat 99%, and me 1%. Nonetheless, I felt thrilled for Patrick.

Well no one is interested in how I feel. So let's not waste time with it and talk about the car!

What a beauty
Make: Mazda
Model: 3
Year: 2012
Engine: 2L, 4 cyclinder 16 valve DOHC S-VT
Power: 108KW from regular unleaded
Transmission: Manual, 6 speed

Well, just look at that. How can Mr Patrick not be happy?  Even his car looks happy be to bought by him. Both of them will have to wait 2 weeks to be reunited though.

I wonder what name will Patrick gave his car. Susan? Elizabeth, Veronica? Nay. Patrick may be older than me but he is actually more modern thinking and technology savvy than me. No teasing please. Most likely he'll give a modern name like Megan. Or Chanel. Heh.

Trivialities aside, Patrick's Mazda 3 is going to serve him well. With a decent boot for his golf clubs, reasonable fuel consumption, safe and comfortable drive, he'll go places. Yeah, literally go places. I bet my last dollar on it.

The important question: HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

I hope Patrick isn't annoyed with me for talking about money here. But the price is all over the net for anyone to check anyway so I dangerously assume he doesn't mind. It'll burn an A$22,000 in Patrick's pocket but looking at the situation, he is taking it in stride. Well coming from Singapore, I don't think anyone will seriously feel annoyed paying that price for that prize.

The most important question though, is whether Patrick will take us down south in future together in his polished beauty instead of us smelling his exhaust in a panting Barry White from behind. But I must baotoh a bit that Patrick did 130km/h on Singapore roads (Yeah book him!) so it's not telling what's going to happen here.

I'll need to end the procrastination and settle my family private health insurance as well as a personal life insurance soon.

  1. Me girl.. so cannot and still don't understand why men would name their cars... it's a car!! :)
To aid in your most important question of going down south, Margaret River is having a heavy tourist promotion at the moment! Hint Hint..

    1. Let's all take a drive down there. You can get a holiday house that can accommodate 12 people for $600/night

    4. Ah, Margaret River is pretty nice. I heard Jen mentioned the place we used to stay (QUEST) has ceased operations though. What a waste. I wonder when I will be able to travel again. Maybe just a weekend trip, still possible. But that meant I can't be going to Albany, MR is as far as i could go.

  2. Congratulations to Patrick!!! Nice car....
I wonder what kind of car can you get in Singapore for $22K???
Boy, aren't we all lucky to be here.?

  3. Dude, you have run out of things to write? :)

Of course I am excited. Though I am ok now taking a bus to work, I have not been able to explore the nicer parts of WA and to golf.

By the way, I got the hatch with auto transmission.
For my budget, I think the Mazda 3 provides the best overall package of quality, reliability, drive and maintenance cost. This is probably why it is the best selling car in the country.

I am definitely looking forward to exploring the rest of WA and also hit a few balls in the many golf courses here.

Of course I will do this with my good friend and Jen and Albany. No need to drive two cars. Save fuel driving just one car and we chat along the way too :)

Two weeks. Let's make some plans!

    1. It's just for fun. I noticed this blog serves as a good memory database. Sometimes when I forgot when I started work in Perth, I search the blog, I'll get the answer.

I'm just kidding about the driving two cars part too. I'm alright with 2 cars or 1. anything for me.

No, I don't run out of things to write. I run out of time to write :)

  4. The current COE for a 2L car in Singapore is now S$73890.00!! Which is equivalent to A$54936.00. Can buy 2 Mazda 2 in Perth and still has some change ... duh...

    1. the coe happens to be the certification to prevent you from owning the car for more than 10 years and the sum buys you 2 brand new 2L cars that is allowed to run as long as you can keep the car functioning.

I recognise the purpose of the coe n it's not fair to compare country to country this way. But money wise, i know where i want to put my money at.

    2. The COE is to 'kerb the number of vehicles on Singapore road", not to prevent us from keeping the car for 10 years. BUT, it is NOT effective. The PARF rebate on the other hand is to encourage us to scrap/export our cars when they are 10 years old.
As far as I'm concerned, COE should be scrapped. The easiest and best way to curb car population is to limit the amount the car buyers can loan from the finance companies.
It may not be fair to compare, but I just wanted to highlight the cost of car ownership in Singapore.

    3. That's the initial purpose. Obviously it's not effective and since they continue to implement it despite that, then real purpose has became: preventing us to keep the car for more than 10 years.

      isn't it?

    4. i thought the purpose is to generate more income for the gov? No? Hahaha...
Ironically, due to the current high COE, the owners of most vans/trucks/buses that are reaching 10 years old have chosen to renew the PQP as new vehicles are too expensive.

    5. It is now. a lot of revenue for the gov. superb source

  6. Good for Patrick! And that new car does look like it has a big smile on it in the first picture. Anyway, what's the name he gave to the car? Men would often give a female name to a car, akin to how ship captains would name ships.

  7. just as a comparison :

    Hyundai i30 : 19k

    Mitsubishi Outlander : 34k

    Mini Cooper Convertible : 50k

  8. For me, Patrick landed a good deal. What I like about Mazda 3 is that when you use this car, your safety is guaranteed upon driving it. It has the famous five-star rating for the ABS brakes with traction and stability control and a solid and sturdy chassis. Anyway, how’s the car performance up until now? I hope Patrick’s money is all worth it.

  9. So, Patrick’s new car is a girl?! I think Chanel would be a wonderful name! Hmm… So, after months, I’m sure Patrick already has a name for his car, am I right? I’m just curious, what is it? I hope they’ll have more driving years together.
