Goldilocks

The New old car was finally acquired after a long last while. It was a 1999 Daihatsu Pyzar. It was advertised for A$2,300, in which we bargained down to A$2,250 eventually. Ok, it wasn't fantastic bargaining skills I know. One of the previous owner did an aftermarket addition to this care, a cruise control function. I really couldn't figure why would anyone bother to install a cruise control in a car like that but well, it was there and working well. So what we've got here is, an old 4 seater with an average 1.5L engine. It has a decent high boot space that allows us to dump Albany's pram behind it comfortably, unlike the previous struggles in Barry White. I call her Goldilocks.

Meet Goldilocks
Well except that this wasn't the same Goldilocks who raided a house in her youth. This was probably that Goldilocks 50 years later. Granny Goldie is probably a better name for it. We have slight creaking cv joints to deal with though. I'll try to fix it myself when I have the time. Meanwhile I've checked the slightly squealing brakes. It isn't brake pads which I initially suspected, it may be the rotors. It is not serious so far but it will require attention at the soonest possible. It may not be the best buy one can get, even at A$2,250, but beggars cannot be choosers. I cannot be driving the company Hilux monster for too long, time is not on my side.

Despite the little problems at the suspension area which I hope to solve soon, the condition of the interior was rather pleasing. The previous owner(s) kept the fabric of the seats, carpets and boot well maintained and clean without tears or marks. I'll soon be driving this car to work.

  2. eh... how come the ad shows silver rims but the actual car has black rims?

  3. it is 'silver' now again, after i put them back. Just a cheap plastic capping. So deceiving.

  4. Well done! I am happy for you. Goldi looks like an upgrade from Barry White, more family friendly.

  5. Will it be underpowered judging from its size and weight?

  6. Fucking cheap! A brand new m/cycle 125cc costs easily at least $6,000! Used one about $3,000. For that money could buy an old functional car in Oz. We can only dream here cuz LTA will tax the hell out of you before you can use the road space with a two or four wheeler. So it's a myth that we have the lowest taxes compared to OZ! WTF! KNN!

    1. Hidden tax. Upfront looks very good but squeeze you dry in other areas. Don't forget it's a 10 yr lease, you don't own the car.

Goldilocks looks very well maintained, sure can last a long time.

How's the cost like for maintenance of a car? Say a 10000 service (all fluids change, spark plugs, etc).

  8. will you humour us with a decision flow chart on your car hunt that led you to Goldilock?

  9. I don't know why I keep grinning as I read about how you acquired Granny Goldilocks.

I don't drive, never owned a car, passed my final theory twice but never my final practice stages.
I don't dig luxury new cars, and my idea of a really solid vehicle is an armoured personnel carrier if it's not too heavy, or a decent scooter if it's not too light.

Maybe because your Goldilocks feels so experienced, sturdy and reliable.
    My kind of folks.
