Accident on Albany Highway

This happened last week. When I failed to clear one of the traffic lights in one cycle, I knew that something bad happened somewhere further up. It was right at the junction of that Mac Donald's where Penny was working at.

I snapped some pictures out of boredom because the traffic was at snail pace.

What struck me as I was approaching the accident scene was that, I was only about 1km away from the accident when I encountered the traffic jam. That meant that the accident occurred only minutes before at the most. Well fortunately I wasn't a few minutes earlier that day. I didn't relish getting into another accident or a close shave. The interesting thought though was that, if the accident just happened, how did the ambulance, police and fire engine got there so quickly? I thought these folks were notorious for being slow and late. That was the impression I was given hearing from the others.

  1. I remember having an accident in Perth, on my way home from the airport. It was raining very heavily and visibility was low. Was driving along at 40km/hr and suddenly the car in front of me stopped. I braked as hard as I could, but it was too late... SLAM! into the car in front. And the car behind me also couldn't stop in time (wet roads) and slammed into my car. Ended up my car looked worse than a smashed coke can. lol

All I remember after that was 8 tow trucks came onto the scene, all within 5 mins! After that the police and ambulance arrived :p

These ppl can be quick when they want to!

  2. My observation while here in Metro Vancouver is that cars give way to emergency vehicles (ambulance, fire truck, police) when they here the siren. In addition, emergency vehicles do not have to stop for red lights, can drive in an opposite direction lane, etc. I think that helps them to get to their destination very quickly. I am not sure if the situation is the same in other parts of Canada though, given that I've read some not so complimentary reports.

That said, I don't recall ever seeing an emergency vehicle driving down an opposite direction lane in Singapore. That was why I found it most interesting when I first saw it here.

    1. yeah... just a few days ago, near nedlands, I saw one ambulance cross the divider into the oncoming lane and ran the red lights at a traffic junction, siren blaring, and the cars turning all jammed brakes at the junction to give way to the ambulance.

Havoc, sia... just like a hollywood show. Quite impressive the way the drivers give way to emergency vehicles.

Opposite of SG - totally no respect for ambulances.

    1. He named her after the city Albany... not really the highway.

IMHO, I think it sounds better than some other weird name like Fish Leong or Kingdom Yuen.

Personally, if all website owners and bloggers made excellent content material as you did, the web shall be much more helpful than ever before.
