Same Old Affairs

Not that I am condoning adultery, unless someone proves to me Palmer's romp affected his work performances in any way, such as having PAssionate outings during office hours or claiming his protection kits as work expenses financed by taxpayers, I'm not the least riled by his private affairs.

Before anyone throw that moral compass in my direction, check your bearings first. If you think being an adulterer is a serious offence that requires an appointment holder to resign from his post but someone sleeping on his job should be allowed to keep his job after letting an international terrorist escape confinement under his watch, keep your compass in your pocket and take it to the nearest repair craftsman. Yes, a public figure should be expected to conduct himself respectfully. Going by the same standards, Jack Neo should not be allowed to be produce movies anymore. No? A politician isn't the same as a movie director. What is this, job discrimination?

Look Singaporeans. We are an innocent bunch but surely naive we are not? Be it elites or commoners, you'll find people from all walks of life engaging in all sorts of shady businesses beyond public sight. People smuggle chewing gums, watch porn, practice BDSM, attend sex parties, wipe your nose snot on your boss' newly polished car, crush live pregnant guppies and post it on youtube and all sorts of unspeakable things. Each of us have probably done enough naughty things that could give us enough sacking worth 50 jobs.

As citizens of Singapore, we should cast Palmer in the shadows and stare closely at how our ruling party conducts itself in this episode. The PAP was very well prepared for this. Before the mainstream media released any reports, a lot of hard work had been done in proper. Low Thia Khiang had been interviewed, "Political analyst" Dr Reuben Wong was summoned to do his public political masturbation for the PAP, noting how fast and efficient and well disciplined the PAP was as compared to the WP during their handling of their own sex saga where it was obviously WP didn't have the luxury of handling their case before media release. Grassroots reports were up within minutes of new release, fellow MPs and colleagues gave their account of Palmer in solemnly as if he died in a car accident, listing all the merits of their ex colleague and how perfect a man he was.

Has anything changed? Has the PAP learnt from lessons? Praising themselves to no end, getting the others to do the same thing, taking potshots at the oppositions even when they are in midst of another royal screw up. Double standard looms threateningly as the Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, (A PM with balls anyone?) hinted he is reluctant to call for a by-election at all, or drag it as long as he possibly can. And Singaporeans continue to fall for the same tricks. What has changed? What will change?

  1. Well written with balanced accurate analysis on this latest hot potato scandal with uncanny parallel between the whites and blues.
I only want to add that I have full respect for Palmer. He faced it like a real man without hiding or keeping quiet, unlike his counterpart went MIA until the party had to sack him! He held his own press conference and took decisive steps at damage control. Like what you say in the beginning of your article, it's no big deal. We all do commit sins.
Read what my mentor, a wise old man says "Read this http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+8%3A2-11&version=NIV!"

  2. Why do you still have full respect for this guy?

He cheated on his wife willingly, and continued in his illicit relationship for god knows how long - and ONLY NOW comes out and admits - most probably because he got caught and blackmailed. If he had been any bit honorable, he would not have got into such a relationship knowing full well it was being unfaithful to his family, not to mention that he is a public figure. He even had the gall to chastise Yaw Shin Leong during his Yaw's affair last year, all the while conducting his own shenanigans.

It's like saying you fully respect a thief on a crime spree, but who only now comes out and admits and apologises in press conferences and practices damage control AFTER he has been caught.

Neither Michael Palmer nor Yaw Shin Leong deserve any respect for being unfaithful to their wives and family.

  3. Haha........

Padaly must have been a Palmer Fan lah.
It cannot be that he has not read all the revelations and
speculations in Blogoland. Another way to read Padaly, he
is probably righteous to the point that because everyone had
at some point in time did or prone to doing silly things, we therefore
got to be forgiving as oneself had done or may do silly things too.

Me actually agrees with Padaly to some extent, however, he got to
know that PAP Members, were making mountain out of a molehill and
whip out a big stomp in a teacup when WP Yaw S L committed a similar
    improper relationship before Palmer.

Singaporeans are waiting for the pious and holy Cow to give us his take
on his Cabinet Colleague. The Cow relished casting aspersions at Workers
Party and Yaw S L. Thus far the Cow seemed lost, hope he is well and comes
out to enlighten the Citizenry that are eagerly awaiting for his wisdom and
    enlightened view.

  4. Thks Patriot for your understanding. Obviously our fren has not read those wise words. Let me reproduce here.

    John 8:2-11
    New International Version (NIV)

2 At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them.

3 The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group

4 and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery.

5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?”

6 They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.

But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger.

7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.”

8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.

9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there.

10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”

11 “No one, sir,” she said.

“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”

  5. Hehe......

Unluckily, the Human World as a whole does not
    believe in that preaching.
    And
luckily mankind knows the Need to right the Wrong
    so that justice can prevail.
All societies have sorts of conducts to function. An
individual can do whatever, but has to avoid getting
caught and be answerable. It is not that it cannot be
    done.

Anyway, me likes to repeat here that had PAP Members and the Official Medias
not went on the onslaught, the people would have been as forgiving as jesus in the Comment You posted.

Personally, me am not taking any particular position. Deed by two consensual adults THAT HURTS NOBODY is a non- issue to me. REPEAT HURTS NOBODY.

    1. I can't help but laugh, not at your bearing check but at the thought of how our MIWs will measure up to this yardstick.

    2. if the key to this "bearing check" is in the word "欲" ... then is "to "欲" or not to "欲" (治国)", no longer the question but the answer?
