Grace's Move

All set for the big move tomorrow
Being able to feel pure happiness for a friend without the slightest tinge of jealousy or envy is a liberating feeling. Steph has finally obtained his permanent residency. After years of struggles, his perseverance has been paid off. With that, together with Joni, their search for their cosy home begins. It will not be too long till rental days are over. Congratulations bro.

Grace is moving into her new house early tomorrow morning. Time really flies. When we arrived, I could recall days where Grace would ask Jen (then pregnant with Albany) to tag along with her to meet her builders because she knew 'next to nothing' about house building. One thing led to another, before long construction began. With a turn of the eye, Grace will be spending her first night in her new house in less than 24 hours' time. Congratulations Grace.

It was a long Friday night. Back in my Singapore days, I hardly reach home before 2100hrs. It was either work (which sucks) or chatting with buddies in kopitiams (which were great). These days, I was so accustomed to returning home straight after work that a few hours spent outside felt pretty straining. It could be age. After all I will be mid-30s in less than half a year's time.

The extra hours were well spent and enjoyable. I was requested to dismantle Grace's bed frame. It was a solid wood frame, sturdy and heavy. Fortunately Thusara came along or else I would have a really hard time. Together with him, we formed that 'pay-it-forward' team and chatted throughout our tasks. The bed frame dismantling wasn't a hinder and was completed without much fuss. Moving all the parts up to the ute was the challenging part because the corridor was narrow, cluttered with neatly packed boxes containing the rest of Grace's treasures. That was why Thusara's turning up saved my back from an ordeal. I am happy to share that Thusara has found a transitional full time job and started working this week. Congratulations Thus.

Fortunately Alvin was living nearby or we would have to leave the parts of Grace's bed frames unassembled until tomorrow. I forgot to bring an extension cord along. It must be aging ... Fortunately Jen and Grace managed to borrow one from Alvin while Thus and I fixed up whatever else we could. Within minutes we got the bed back up and the girls were bouncing on the thick King Koil mattress to 'test my work'. Nothing collapsed and no butts ended on the ground, so we packed up. Big day tomorrow for Grace.

  1. The first sentence is very telling of the colour you have turned into.... Short of being Incredible Hulk. It's expected when Steph got his PR...otherwise... There's always be someone who is in a "worse-off" position than you which you had gloated about. Grace's new house .. Has always been a thorn in your flesh... Both good news coming at you in one blow... It must be so true "happiness"... Yeah.. We "believe" you.

    1. It looks like you have some problems with comprehension! Suggest doing a bit more homework before you sit for your IELTS!

    2. Dear Choked-On-Coke,

You landed on this blog instead of http://disneyland.com/ that you are supposed to end up. That's bad eyesight. You need your glasses, evidently.

  3. Alamak... So obvious,. 无风不起浪。just like endogenous gas causes farts due to incomplete digestion of food. Akin to a fart, the first comment was made most probably with a cause.

Why even bother to retort if there's no truth in the first comment?

surprised? Yes and No. No, because similar things had been said. Yes, because someone out there who is real pissed off enough to bring out into the open.

    1. The comments shows nothing you suggested. Your own comments though shows plenty about youself.

  4. Cool it all. I am not taking any sides here.

There are two sides to a coin. Whatever the comments are, they are pepper and salt to spice things up. Thus, the advice to read blogs at their face value and with a pinch of salt.

Free speech should be encouraged in this virtual world, and don't need hard and high handed ways to crush any negative comments. In particular, seemingly whistle blowing comments. May I say typical Singaporeans who have been under such harsh regime far too long, that they have cultivated the same mentality like the regime in white itself. No wonder we will never see a Julian Assange from Singapore.

To those who retort in defense of the blogger, don't invest blind faith unwittingly.

To the writer of this blog, if you were truly happy for your friends, then there's no need to stress it is without jealousy nor envy. I did have the same doubt across my mind after reading your blog.

I ask for freedom to express my happiness the way I wanted to. You encourage free speech but on the other hand insisted that I have to leave out certain text in order to sound 'truly happy' to you. What irony. If the people here speak a word of fairness here are investing blind faith, what do you call people like you and Choked-on-Coke who judges a person by a few words? Fyi, that lady is the same person who called me a murderer in the same manner. High handedness is not my usual style. That is reserved for people who doesn't have basic manners.

For a start for example, if you have doubts, you can always ask. No. But you already made your judgement.

    2. The author did put a disclaimer that this blog is a fiction. Thank you for reminding people these are just stories.
To the one who spills the beans, you are funny and got balls.

  5. The blog author, asingaporean son, is absolutely right to respond as he did to the trolls here. They are basically people with no guts and no manners. Their comments show that their parents did a might bad job bringing them up.

    So, to the Trolls:

If you have to disagree, do so constructively and always with civility. And with some effort at punctuation. That way, you won't come across as an uneducated, crass, low-brow person with a chip on your shoulder. Thank you.
