Jen's First Car

Somebody once told me that Jen would hate me forever for contemplating buying her a custom made diamond ring as my proposal ring to her. Accordingly to prophecy,  she will hate me a little more whenever she loses faces during the meet ups with the girls for not having a branded diamond ring on her finger. These days apparently, even food isn't edible anymore unless it is of a certain brand. Perhaps.

I bought a small 0.49 carat ring from Lee Hwa in the end. Not because I scumberred to peer pressure but I was running out of time. The dainty lovely, my 'best-test neighbour' who helped me a great deal in making the purchase possible. Else there would be no ring, branded or not. Anyway, what's Lee Hwa? When you get one, it'll be seen inferior to Tiffany. When you get a Tiffany&co, it will be inferior to something else. Yup, I owe Jen a good ring but I will never get it for her.

Since she married me, she haven't been the happiest woman on earth. At least when material possession in concerned. Other than a mobile phone which she is still currently using, I've given her nothing. No flowers on birthdays, no presents on wedding anniversaries, no Hello Kitties imported from Singapore whatsoever. Given my poor record, I'm glad I'm not around folks who are constantly telling me that I don't love my wife and my wife hates me for that though she loves me too much not to tell me in the face.

I am a poor man. My sister may (fondly) say I am miserly. Whatever it is, the truth is that my circumstances only allow me to be nothing but prudent. While buying Jenny her first car contradicted prudence glaringly, especially when we already owned a car, I convinced myself after careful considerations that a car for her logistic needs was closer to necessities than a few years' supply of Hello Kitties or a branded diamond ring. For one, she couldn't drive a diamond ring during emergencies. Hello Kitties couldn't carry groceries bags for us either.

Jen loves the car. She really does. I can feel it. How can I not, when I am jealous of her for having it? The car suited her to a T. She used to tell me she loves a convertible car, the sunroof on her new old car was a good compromise that she gladly accepted. She found the car high enough at last, that puts most sedan cars out of the picture previously. The car has a large boot, even larger than Goldilocks' butt. She mentioned it was much easier to carry Albany off the car due to the higher level of the back car seats. It is a bigger capacity car at 2000cc, which provided a much smoother, quieter and stable ride. She likes the car number plate too.

The car comes with a tow bar and is road worthy enough to take three of us for future road trips and camping. After I give the car a good clean up on the inside, a proper polish on the exterior plus some minor fix ups, it will be a beautiful monster fitted for my love, nevermind what the others say.

  1. Hi Nix,
God bless you and family. Not bad already, you are a wonderful hubby and daddy. Keep it up!
It is a must to have least 2 cars in Perth. Great that you have got Jen a car so that she can ferry little Albany and doing other chores when you are not available.
